Real Meadia Artifact:

'Get Wokingham' is a local newpaper website, like 'Bracknell nws' it also looks clean cut and easy and simple for the readers to use.
The logo is also at the top left of the website home page with advertisements to the right of it.
The navigation bar is under the logo which is very common for all newspaper website's , with the navigation bar being directly under the logo it is very easy for the readers to follow and navigate them selves arond the web site, unlike the 'Bracknell news' this navigation bar is not colour coded but this does notseem to matter.
Again there is one main strywhich is larger with smaller storys uner it.
There are also other sections such as job search which features in newspapers.
I feel the layoutof this website is also neatly presented, and has a good colour scheme which makes it easyto follow.

Real Meadia Arifacts

This website is for the 'Bracknell news.' The look of this website is clear, easy and simple to use.
The logo is at the top left of the site with advertisements to the right. The navigation bar is under the logo, this is the same as most newspaper sites.
The navigation bar is colour coded and very easy to follow, and would be easy for all age groups to work their way around the site.
The main story is under the logo, it changes every few seconds, i will not be able to do this but will make sure i have one main story. Under this are other smaller storys. This all looks very neat ad well presented, i would like to use this layout within my web site.
There are also other sections to capture the readers interest including cometions, sports and job search. These are not news as such but are often featurs in newspapers.
I feel the website looks very clean cut and brings the main elements of the newspaper ont the internet to make it easy and simple for on line readers.

First Page: Final Copy

I then realised i had done my newspaper on A4 not A3 so i had to make a few minor changes however i still kept the same layout, just added in some more articles.

Monday, 30 November 2009

Hannah, I would look at the quality of your original images and try and manipulate them more to show technical skill with the camera. I still think that the front page is a little bright but the inside page is very good. Don't forget the ancillary tasks and to create that sense of continuity between all three products.

Front page final copy:

I then realised my page was A4 instead of A3 so I changed the size of the page. This resulted in me having a few problems with the sizes of my articles and other bits. So I had to make a few changes, firstly I put the whole of the main story on the front page which isn’t a problem because most local newspapers do this. I also had to add in another advertisement so I didn’t have any free space.

Construction: Poster Final

I feel it looks better without the bottom block.
However I want it to link to my newspaper so I made the top block of green bigger.

Construction: Poster draft 3

I took away the bottom block of green.

Construction: Poster draft 2

I still felt it looked quite harsh and uneven.

Construction: Poster draft 1

I felt my first attempt of the poster was good but realised posters don’t have certain dates on it so I decided t remove this.

Construction: First Page draft 8

I decided to t ouch up minor details and changed some of the font size.

Construction: First Page draft 7

All my articles are on the page now and I feel it all looks and feels like a newspaper first page.

Construction: First Page draft 6

I added in two other columns as well as an article picture and I’m liking the look and layout.

Construction: First Page draft 5

I was then told my text needed to be 10pt. I also felt my main headline didn’t look to good so I decided to change the size of his and add more advertisement on the page. As well as adding the date and website I also changed the pictures of the free magazines, I now feel they look neater.

Construction: First Page draft 3

I added in the main headline.

Hannah, I need to see some final construction pieces by now.
Miss D

Construction: First Page 2 draft

I then added advertisements down the right side of the page.

Construction: First Page draft 1

I decided to use the layout that my peers felt was the best and I added my contents box at the bottom of the page with the green colour scheme in the background.

Construction: Front Page

I then touched up on the font.

Construction: Front Page

I was then told my font was too big so I changed it to 10pt, I also looked over my font and touched up on it.

Construction: Front page

I added in my main picture which I feel brings the whole page together and makes it look more like a newspaper.
Hannah, I feel that the layout is good and it is eye-catching but you need to look at the use of colour as the product is quite 'bright'- does this fit codes and conventions.
Also, the font is large- generally the font in a newspaper is 10pt.
Miss D

Construction: Front Page

I changed the size of my article column box again because I still felt it didn’t look good. I also added in my logo, which I feel looks really good and links both to my newspaper and Crowthorne.

Construction: Front Page

I then added in my picture.

Construction: Front Page

I then started to play around with the size of the other article column. I also decided to take away the red block at the top behind the newspapers name because it wasn’t capturing the newspaper feel that I wanted.

Construction: Front Page

I then wrote my columns and extended the rest on the second page. I also added another strip near the bottom of the page advertising another page within my newspaper to get them interested in buying the paper.

From Mrs S

This is still looking good, but you really need to have some detail in you construction now.

Construction: Front Page

I then decided my third text box column will be a different article column otherwise there would be to much text on the front page.

Construction: Front Page

I then added in the date, price and website of my newspaper. I feel this makes the newspaper look more believable.

Monday, 9 November 2009

Construction: Front Page

I then made my own advertisements to go at the bottom of the page.

Friday, 6 November 2009

Construction: Front Page

I then added in were i thought the advertisements would look best which is along t he bottom of the page.

Construction: Front Page

I then added the main story headline and my local newspaper's name, the black against the other colours works really well and makes the titles stand out to the reader.

Construction: Front Page

Firstly I took the layout that my peers preferred and I added the colour scheme to it which is green and red. I really like the colour scheme and feel it works well. I didn’t want to much colour because I didn’t want to take the newspaper feel away.

From Mrs S

I'm impressed with the amount of planning you're doing, but don't forget that the construction has 60 marks.

Layout for Poster:

I asked ten of my peers what layout they thought was best for my poster. 70% of my peers agreed that layout 3 would be the best. Most people said this seemed more in order and they felt it was effective that the headline would be in the center of the page.

Layout for First Page:

I asked ten of my peers what layout they thought was the most effective for my first page. 60% of my peers said they thought layout 1 is the most effective layout. They felt it looked like a newspaper layout and even though there was a lot going on you could see that all the different articles had there seperate places.

Layout for Front Page:

I asked ten of my peers what layout for my local newspaper's front page they thought would be more effective and look the most attractive. 50% of my peers said they thought Layout 2 was the most effective layout. Some of the comments on this layout was that it looked neat and in order. I agree that this is the best layout to use for the front page.

Planning: Pictures

I quickly brainstormed and wrote down what different types of pictures I could use within my Local Newspaper. From my earlier questionnaire I already know that 19/20 people would like colour throughout my Local Newspaper, so I will be using colour throughout my Newspaper. I also want my pictures to be interesting and eye-catching to the readers. From my previous questionnaire I already know that pictures are very important to the readers as 45% of people said they would prefer more pictures to text. Even though I will be having more text to pictures I know that pictures are important to my readers so I will make sure they are interesting and stand out.
I will be using a range of different sized pictures from small to large. And I will be making sure my pictures relate to the article and are meaningful.

Planning: Language

I quickly brainstormed and wrote down what different types of language could be used throughout my newspaper. For the tiles and sub-tiles I will be using short and snappy language with some slang and informal language in it, like newspapers generally use. By using this type of language for my titles and sub-titles this will grab my readers attention and get them interested in the story.
Within my articles I will be using formal and informal language this will hopefully interest all generations within my articles I will not be using slang unless it is a quote because I want my newspaper to have a professional feel.

Planning: Potential Articles

I quickly brainstormed and came up with a few ideas for each article category. From my previous questionnaire I already know 35% of my newspaper readers would like a crime and punishment story on the front cover. So I will definitely be having a crime and punishment story on the front cover. When asking my peers what other stories they think would work well within my newspaper it was almost even. So I can see that my readers want a bit of everything within my newspaper.

Hannah, think about the stories you could run with the your reader's would enjoy then start construction! Miss D

Planning: The colour scheme for my Local Newspaper

By looking at other Local Newspapers and taking into account the area (Crowthorne) which my Local Newspaper will be issued to I came up with eight different colour schemes. I then asked 10 of my peers what colour scheme they felt was appropriate for my Local Newspaper. 40% said they thought the best colour scheme for me to use is green, red and black (with the bland white background) taking into account my previous questionnaire were 95% of people said they would like colour throughout the newspaper, I would have to agree because this colour scheme has three different colours in it. Also taking into account the area, this colour scheme is perfect because it represents the area well. The green represents Crowthorne’s outside and two local schools Edgbarrow and C of E and the red also represents Edgbarrow.

Planning: Colour Scheme for My Local Newspaper

Planning: Newspaper font for name

I asked 10 of my peers what they thought would be the best font for my Newspapers name. I eanted the Newspaper name to look appealing to all generations so asked a mixture of age groups. 40% of people said they thought Basic Sans Heavy was the best font to use for my Newspapers name. I agree because it's big, bold and clear but also slightly different to my article font and my sub-heading font.
